The second week of league is usually when everything gets back to normal. No paperwork to be done, no scouting out the new teams, no saying hello to people you haven't seen all summer, just good old bowling.
Last night we bowled the highest averaging team in the league. My team was actually getting 13 pins handicap. This is the only team that gives us pins. The first game we come out and throw an 1182 scratch game at them and we win by about 40 pins. Right there I knew it was going to be one of those nights. We ended up losing the last 2 games and total. They had 3 guys on their team shoot over 735 and the other 2 were in the high 600's. They just made better and quicker adjustments than we did. We bowled alright, but besides the first game we were around 1100 the other 2 games.
I was very disappointed in myself last night. The first game I had the front 10 and left a 4 pin on the 11th for a 289 game. Then I didn't adjust fast enough to the changing lanes and declined the next 2 games going 227 and 198. The last game I left a split and chopped the freakin 3,6,9,10. Tough way to end what I thought was going to be a huge night. Can't be too disappointed though, a 700 series in the first 2 weeks is good for me considering I don't touch a bowling ball from the end of May until the end of August.
Oh well, check back for more exciting details next week.
We just had our first league night on 8/30 (my birthday). It was a rather uneventful night, aside from the drunkenness. Came out the first game and opened in the 10th for a 208. 2nd game, had 1 open and ended up rolling 221. Last game was a clean 237. I will help you with the math, that is 666. Nothing like starting a new season with the number of the beast. Hopefully it is not a bad omen and it will still be a good year. The sad part was, that was high on our team last night. We had series of 655, 583, 614, 666, and 643. Not the worst first night, but with only 2 of us hitting average we only took the last game.
Suprisingly there were not any real big games shot. We had a 279 and a 278 in the league. We bowl 5 man teams and have 14 of them. 70 bowlers and only 7, 700 series last night. The shot was there, it was a little drier than last year, but it was very playable. I will chalk it up to it being the first night , for the lower scores.
Oh well, its time to start another league season at good old AMF Taunton Lanes. For some reason I am really not looking forward to starting this year. I have only bowled 1 game since I came back from the Nationals at the end of May. Not to mention that tomorrow is my birthday and it our first night of the league, so needless to say, I will be feeling pretty good while bowling. I am sure there will be a few cocktails consumed before, during and after bowling.
Good luck to all in your quest to reach your goals this year. I will keep blogging on a weekly basis. Take care.
The season is getting ready to come to a close. We have 3 weeks left on our Thursday night league with 2 of those nights being position rounds. The top 3 teams have finally seperated themselves from the rest. The first place team is ahead by just 5 points (7 point system). My team and another were tied for 2nd and tok all 7 points last night. Next week is a position round and we get to bowl the first place team because we have more total pins than the other team. Last night we were giving a team 88 pins handicap which is quite a bit in our league. Our 1st bowler had a tough night and only shot in the 550's. Our 2nd bowler had his highest series ever with a 755. The last 3 guys shot 677, 701 (me), and 678. the team stuck with us except for our last game when we shot our high game of the match with an 1164. Hopefully we throw some good scores the rest of the year to try to take this half after coming in 3rd in the 1st half.
We also have a team bowling in our association tournament in 2 weekends. It is being held at Westgate Lanes in Brockton. Looking forward to that. We have a pretty strong team going and a good group of guys that will have plenty of fun during and especially after bowling. Then after the season is over, our 2 teams from Taunton will be heading to the Nationals for Memorial Day week. We are bowling Monday and Tuesday that week. This will be my first time there and I can't wait to get there.
Well, a buddy of mine called me up to sub last night. I didn't want to but nobody else could and I know how much it sucks bowling with a short team when fighting for first place, so I bowled. Decided to put a little polish on my No Mercy and see if that would help my reaction. I noticed right from practice that I had a good look. I knew if I stayed focused I could have a good night because my line wouldn't be touched all night (ended up moving feet 2 boards all night). Come out of the gate with the front 5, leave a 4 pin, spare it up, throw a couple more strikes and throw my only bad ball of the night leaving a 2-4-8. Make that and strike spare out for a 236. Next game is the big one, all 12 balls perfect for a 299. Ripped a 10 pin in the 12th. The 10th and 11th balls were the best ones I threw in the game. Last game I have a shot for 800, but a couple of swishing 7's and a 4 pin stomp that idea by the 9th frame. Shoot 246 for a 781 series.
Not bad for a guy who didn't even feel like bowling. Also glad I gave the No Mercy a 2nd chance.
